Builder diversifies with security division.
Scott Beresford, new head of JND Security, said "We had previously been known for our work in the new-build sector and, based on the success of our services, we recognised a clear opportunity to develop that work into the broad commercial sector, so we have launched JND Security."
The family-owned business has started fitting CCTV, alarms and other security devices to customers including the Tik Tok Nursery in Felling, Gateshead, as it works to take its revenues as close as it can to last year's pounds 50m.
It mainly provides plumbing, heating, electrical and renewable energy services to the construction sector and was established in 1892.
It was bought by current chief executive Stephen Bilclough's grandfather George in the 1950s and as well as its Newcastle headquarters it now has branches in Leeds, Scotland and Teesside. More than 50% of its work is in the social housing sector and with the private sector struggling, the company has been turning its attentions to other areas of construction.
