Builder Steve on a high.

A CONSTRUCTION professional has been recognised for his dedication to staying safe at work.

Steve Brown works at Newcastlebased Bellway's Ochre Yards site in Gateshead, where he has been commended in the first round of NHBC's Health and Safety Awards 2014.

He said: "This is a very busy site with a lot of our employees working at heights well above ground level. Health and safety has got to be our number-one priority not just for our employees but also our visitors. It is very much a team effort and I feel that this commendation belongs to my team as much as me."

Ian Wood, Bellway's construction director, added: "Gaining a commendation is a big deal. The NHBC Health and Safety Awards recognise high-performing site managers for their diligence and innovation in health and safety, minimising and eliminating risks to staff and the public.

"Steve has done particularly well to be named among the top 51 site managers across the country to receive this commendation."
