Buhari doing well on anti-corruption, insurgency war aNorthern rulers.

THE Northern Traditional Rulers' Council has thumbed up President Muhammadu Buhari, on the sustained efforts to rid the country of corruption and the declared war on insurgency.

The Council, however, warned politicians against the use of religious and ethnic prejudices in politics, noting that a democratic society could not be established through violence, injustice and impunity.

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the General Assembly of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council held in Kaduna, and read to newsmen by the Chairman, Coordinating Committee, NTRC, Emir of Gummi, His Royal Highness, Justice Lawal Hassan, on Thursday in Abuja.

The General Assembly which according to the communique was presided over by His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar, was attended by the Chairmen and three members each from the Traditional Councils of the 19 Northern states and FCT, Abuja.

The traditional rulers, while expressing their commitment towards supporting the Federal Government in achieving peace, stability and good governance, called on security agencies to be alive to their responsibilities to ensure security of lives and properties of all the citizenry irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation.

Hassan, said NTRC has also resolved to continue to support the security agencies in the discharge of their responsibilities in all possible ways.

They condemned the herdsmen and farmers conflicts across the country, saying there was the need for establishment of an all-encompassing stakeholders meeting to take a holistic remedial view of all issues relating to peace and security.

The Council also frowned on the sordid condition of some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps and their sufferings while calling on stakeholders to join hands with the government to ameliorate their plight so as to forestall future crisis.
