Buckley lifts Blackburn Trophy.

Byline: Linzi Nicholson ,

A blend of youth and experience contested the thrilling final of the Enid Blackburn Memorial Trophy at Marsh United.

Andrea Buckley, of Meltham, a Yorkshire ladies county team regular, faced the experience of Heckmondwike's Doris Dunning - and won.

Buckley pipped Dunning 21-20 in the tense final to win the pounds 200 first prize and the trophy.

In the semi-finals Buckley defeated her Meltham teammate Marie Lockwood 21-15 while Dunning had to produce a `wonder wood' to earn victory against Dianne Radcliffe, of Cowcliffe, 21-20.

Changeable weather also played its part on Saturday evening with B Lunn defeating Joanne Sykes 21-1 before the rain came and she was then beaten 21-6 by Marie Lockwood who played into the corners in wet conditions.

Howard Blackburn, son of the late Enid and event sponsor, presented the prizes and a raffle raised pounds 100 for the McMillan Nurses Cancer Relief Fund.
