Bubonic plague detected in deceased teenager, final diagnosis to be announced today.
In Issyk-Kul region, medical workers continue to conduct
counter-measures after the death of the 15-year-old teenager. The second
diagnosis of the boy's death showed form of bubonic plague. It is
supposed that the Republican Emergency Anti-Epidemic Commission will
announce the final result of the test today, the press service of the
Ministry of Health said on August 26. As a result of the
counter-measures, 102 contact persons were detected, 19 of them are
medical workers who were in direct contact with the deceased patient.
Currently, they were admitted to hospital and isolated. The day before,
the Republican Emergency Anti-Epidemic Commission, chaired by the Vice
Prime Minister Kamila Talieva and Minister of Health Dinara Saginbaeva,
held a session where all services coordinated actions to prevent the
plague in the Kyrgyz Republic. A video-conference was held with
representatives of the regional structures. It was decided for all
contact persons to take the appropriate course of antibiotic therapy and
exercise caution in showing signs of the disease, which primarily
reminds angina. Medical experts are working to inform residents of the
disease zone about its first signs and preventive measures. According to experts, the bubonic plague form, transmitted from person to person by
direct contact and usually localized in bubo, is not as dangerous as
pneumonic plague, which is spread by airborne transmission.
