Bryn adds voice to fundraiser; Classical.
BRYN TERFEL, the largerthan- life bass baritone from Wales, is coming to Coventry later this year.
He will be singing at a gala concert at Warwick Arts Centre on September 30, and is the latest in a string of big voices to raise money for the arts centre's education programme.
Previous star supporters have included famous sopranos Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Lesley Garrett and Katherine Jenkins.
There is no doubt that Bryn is currently hot property.
He was a sell-out success in Birmingham earlier this month when he appeared with Welsh National Opera in the title role in Wagner's Flying Dutchman.
His Coventry gala will follow a busy summer which will include starring in Puccini's Tosca at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Bryn's versatility means he can impress serious opera buffs and still delight record-buying, Classic-FM listeners, with recent albums ranging from Wagner arias to traditional English (and, of course, Welsh) folk songs and show hits.
Organisers are expecting him to come up with an eclectic programme for the Coventry gala, when he will be accompanied by a choir, and musicians from the Manchester Camerata.
Arts centre director Alan Rivett says: "Bryn Terfel is a great star, so I am thrilled that he has agreed to join us for what promises to be a very special date in the region's diary."
Tickets cost from pounds 18.50 from 024 7652 4524.
