Brunching with the ponies.

The Palermo brunch at the Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club provides a great atmosphere without the hustle and bustle of central Dubai's more famous brunch options

The Friday Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club Brunch held at its the steak and seafood restaurant, Palermo, is a sumptuous outdoors affair, with eight live cooking stations boasting delicious tender meat cuts, a selection of seafood and traditional roasts and accompanying sides.

The brunch plays host to a large range of other food options for the non-carnivore, from salads to a huge and salacious selection of cheeses (over 70 different kinds I am told!) and accompanying breads and biscuits that simply must be sampled. The cheeses were definitely a highlight of the meal for me, as were the freshly grilled prawns.

The large outdoors terrace gives you a stellar view of the polo match action going on on-field during your meal and the chance to stomp out divots between chukkas is great fun and a chance to stretch your legs between courses and make room for the sweet delights on offer.

The terrace at Palermo is light, airy and a real getaway from the hustle and bustle of main Dubai. While the brunch is always packed, it is a shame that does not carry on into the evening. Most customers seemed to fade away as the sun went down, this is when the Polo Club comes into its own, with beautifully lit grounds, and the warm and inviting interior at the Club's lounge, Ippos, is a lovely place to slip into after an afternoon of hard brunching.

The table lay-out is cozy, but there is enough space not to be overheard by your neighbours and it provides a nice family atmosphere. Staff are friendly and accommodating and know what is being served when asked.

All in all it was a great brunch that didn't exude the over-the-top, show-off vibe found at many other Dubai brunches, yet, it was high end enough to ensure the food was fabulous and the atmosphere far overshadowed the hustle, bustle and noise at the more famous brunches in the UAE.

If you are looking for somewhere to relax with the family on a Friday afternoon with a good view, outdoors vibe and a great selection of food that is far out of the way enough not to attract a regular brunching crowd, this may just be your new 'go-to' spot in Dubai. Prices start at AED 295 with soft beverages.
