Brum can (almost) bank on rain for a holiday weekend.

IF you thought it always rained on August bank holiday weekend, you would be right... almost.

The Mail has looked at 10 years of weather data for Birmingham Airport from the website Weather Underground.

And you would have to go back to 2007 for an August bank holiday that was completely free of drizzle in Birmingham.

Every other August bank holiday weekend since then has seen at least a bit of rain at some point over the three days.

Perhaps the worst long weekend in recent years was in 2015 - a washout on the Sunday and Monday.

Things improved for last year's August bank holiday though - after a rainy and thundery Saturday the weather brightened up for the Sunday and Monday, while the temperature that weekend was a bit warmer than the rest of the month.

Number of rainy days (in brackets) on August bank holidays over the last decade: 2007 (0), 2008 (3), 2009 (2), 2010 (2), 2011 (3), 2012 (2), 2013 (2), 2014 (2), 2015 (2), 2016 (1)
