Bruce gets Carter, 5, in as assistant boss for the day; special day for villa mad amputee.

VILLA boss Steve Bruce had a little help when a young "assistant manager" joined him for the day.

He conducted yesterday morning's press conference with the surprise guest - five-year-old Villa fan Carter Carrington!

The young amputee, who has a claret and blue-branded prosthetic leg, was invited to a special meetand-greet at Bodymoor Heath after the players heard about his recent success. Carter won a taekwon-do tournament as the only disabled competitor and was the talk of the training ground as the news filtered through the first team.

Villa officials contacted his father, Marlon, to invite them behind the scenes where he met favourite player Jack Grealish and his teammates.

Bruce also showed his class by sitting the youngster by his side as he was questioned by the media before Villa's clash with Millwall today.

Carter received all the usual treatment which included pictures and a pre-press conference debrief.

Bruce asked him if he would like to ask any questions 'off the record' and Carter duly obliged.

"Is Jack playing tomorrow?" he asked of his favourite player.

Bruce chuckled and said he would have to wait and see!

Villa's website editor then asked Carter the first question of the press conference which was screened live on Villa's YouTube channel.

He predicted a 2-1 scoreline but the focus then turned to the manager who added: "He's the top man, he's my new assistant manager for the day.

"His favourite player is Grealish, of course, that's why he's got a haircut like that. He's going to give us a hand today!" Carter had his left leg amputated at the age of 11 months after being born with Fibular Hemimelia.

The condition meant he was missing a fibular bone, his cruciate ligament and one of his toes and has a shorter tibia than in his right leg.

He is a claret and blue fanatic and recently got a new limb with a Villa design, which he has since had signed by past and present players.

Father Marlon said: "Villa have been great and as Carter is Villamad he's loving every minute of it."
