Brother boosts Chinese output of its tapping centers.
Add Brother Industries Ltd. to the list of Japanese machine-tool
builders making further inroads into China. Starting to assemble the
compact, No. 30-taper, CNC machining centers that it calls tapping
centers in September, Brother Sewing Machine Xian Co., Ltd. (Xian,
Shaanxi Province), a wholly-owned subsidiary founded in 2001, will raise
the monthly volume to 200 units by fiscal year 2011 ending in March
2012. The entire output will be sold in China along with those to be
supplied by Citizen Zibo Precision Machinery Co., Ltd. (Zibo, Shandong
Province). The subsidiary of Citizen Machinery Co., Ltd. (Miyota, Nagano
Pref.) served as the sole production base in China for Brother's
Tapping Centers until the latter opted for production in scenic Xian. It
came after a trader, Yamazen Corp. (Osaka), was awarded contracts to
supply a total of 2,300 Tapping Centers from two Taiwan-based
electronic-components manufacturers operating in China. Yamazen runs 14
technical services centers in the mainland compared to two for Brother,
one in Shanghai and the other in Dongguan, Guangdong Province.
