Brolly good show for old shell.

THE casing from a shell fired on pro-Gaddafi forces during the Libyan conflict has a new job - as the Prime Minister's umbrella stand.

The now highly polished brass cylinder was one of more than 200 blasted from HMS Liverpool's 4.5in main gun during the destroyer's operational deployment in the Mediterranean.

David Cameron met sailors from the ship and other forces personnel at a Downing Street reception.

He said: "We were talking about how HMS Liverpool was getting on, trying to stop Gaddafi in Tripoli -I've now met not only the captain of that ship, but he's also given me my proudest possession - one of the shell casings fired in anger will now be an umbrella stand in the Cameron household."
