NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 1997--The crafty Carmen Sandiego is at it again! She's now after prized possessions of the past! At Toy Fair, Broderbund Software (NASDAQ:BROD) will unveil Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?(TM), the newest addition to its best-selling Carmen Sandiego line of educational software. Also being showcased is a variety of creativity and learning software for children including Orly's Draw-A-Story(TM), a story illustration and writing program set in Jamaica; a new line of story adventure titles, Darby the Dragon(TM) and Gregory and the Hot Air Balloon(TM); and the critically acclaimed Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?(R) and Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego?(R) Broderbund will exhibit these titles and more, February 14-17 at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center, Booth No. G232.

"Toy Fair is always a fun and exciting show for us. It's an opportunity for Broderbund to reach buyers and consumers who might not ordinarily attend the more traditional computer shows," says Jan Gullett, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing at Broderbund. "Having attended the show the past few years, we've seen a definite interest from attendees considering stocking software in their stores, but just not sure how to go about doing it. Software has never been easier to use and we think the retailers here will be excited about our new line."

Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?

Kids embark on a voyage to the New World with Christopher Columbus, learn native American sign language from the Shoshoni, and help Ludwig van Beethoven reassemble his musical masterpieces in Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego? History comes to life in this adventure-based expedition where kids ages 9 and up learn about important historical events, people and civilizations. Players explore many time periods throughout American and world history from Ancient Egypt to the present day. Each self-contained adventure concentrates on a particular period of history emphasizing cultural achievement, ancient civilizations, technology, government or exploration. From Ancient Rome to the Renaissance, from the formation of the 13 Colonies to the Space Race, this new detective game motivates children to relive history while traveling through time in pursuit of the legendary Carmen Sandiego and her bumbling bandits! Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego? is scheduled to release this fall.

The announcement of this new software title takes place on the heels of the recent releases of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? and Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego?, both top five software titles this past holiday, and the successful launch of the new Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego? PBS game show for kids. In fact, Lynne Thigpen and villains such as Baron Wasteland and Jaqueline Hyde from the television show will appear in the new software. With over 20 Carmen Sandiego licensees whose offerings include network TV shows on FOX and PBS, comic and activity books, board games, puzzles, apparel and more, the Carmen Sandiego franchise is stronger than ever. Released last month, Orly's Draw-A-Story features Orly, a playful young Jamaican girl and her best friend, Lancelot the frog. In this wonderfully imaginative story illustration and writing program, Orly invites children ages 5 to 10 to her island home of Jamaica where they help Orly tell story adventures by drawing pictures that spring to life in the animated tales.

In Logical Journey of the Zoombinis(TM), kids ages 8-12 build advanced math thinking skills as they lead the Zoombinis on their escape to a new homeland. Twelve sets of puzzles with four levels of difficulty develop data organization and thinking skills vital for understanding advanced math concepts such as algebra, set theory, graphing, and data analysis.

Interactive storybook adventures for ages 3-8, Darby the Dragon and Gregory and the Hot Air Balloon, captivate, entertain and teach as children learn phonics, creative arts, letters and counting. Children can also read along with the narrated storybooks.

These creativity and learning titles are currently available as hybrid (Windows/Macintosh) CD-ROMs for approximately $29.
