Brocade launches 'highest 10GbE port density switch'.

Network hardware vendor Brocade today announced three new Campus LAN offerings in a continuation of its New IP strategy.

The Brocade enterprise stackable ICX 7250 switch delivers

what the company claims is "the industry's highest 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE)

port density for any switch in its class". It is aimed at accommodating escalating

user video and wireless traffic on campus networks. The switch is said to

deliver "50% greater stacking density than comparable switches".

Brocade's centrally managed Switch Port Extender joins its HyperEdge

Architecture portfolio, and is designed to allow Brocade ICX 7250 and 7450

switches to inherit advanced Brocade ICX 7750 features and capabilities.

The company also extended OpenFlow 1.3 support to Brocade

ICX 7450 and 7750 switches to enable SDN solutions in LAN architectures.

In March 2012 Brocade unveiled its 'Effortless Network' concept,

built around the company's HyperEdge architecture. The concept was geared

towards "[removing] the complexity of legacy campus architectures by collapsing

unnecessary network layers and removing legacy protocols such as spanning tree

with inactive links", according to a statement.

"Enterprise campus networks are expected to deliver services

thought impossible just a few years ago," said Yarob Sakhnini, regional

director, MEMA, Brocade. "Video conferencing, real-time collaboration, distance

learning, and patient monitoring are just a few of the applications that organisations

are deploying to enhance employee productivity, improve customer service, and

create a competitive advantage.

"Additionally, anytime, anywhere mobile access has become

ubiquitous with an explosion of wireless devices connected to the network,

along with rising user expectations. As a result, today's IT organisations need

to quickly and efficiently transform their campus networks to support

ever-changing business needs, all within constrained budgets. In short, they

need to do more with less."

General availability for the Brocade ICX 7250

begins this month with a list price starting at $2,000; the initial release of

Switch Port Extender is planned for late 2015; Brocade ICX 7450 and 7750

OpenFlow 1.3 implementations are available this month and will support

standalone mode initially, with full stacking support to follow in a future

software release.
