Bro hit form to close in on Nant.

DIVISION ONE NORTH Bro Ffestiniog 17 Ruthin 9 BRO Ffestiniog closed the gap on Division One North leaders Nant Conwy with a hard fought victory over a Ruthin side who were left wondering how they managed to come away without at least a losing bonus point.

The visitors were first to get points on the board with a penalty from centre Shay Owen, with the home side responding with the only try of the game despite desperate defending from Ruthin.

A good period of Ruthin play followed and Owen put them ahead again with a second penalty.

Although having most of the possession and territory Ruthin were unable to break through a solid Bro defence and at the break went in 6-5 ahead.

Both sides came out in the second-half playing with some urgency and the game oscillated from end to end with neither side in real ascendancy.

With about 20 minutes to go Bro kicked a penalty goal from the Ruthin 10 yard line putting them back in front and five minutes later Owen kicked another penalty goal putting Ruthin 9-8 ahead.

In the last 10 minutes Ruthin seemed to lose their way and were on occasions unnecessarily handing possession to the home side. Ruthin conceded two penalties which Bro kicked over with considerable accuracy from some distance.

At 14-9 down Ruthin still had a losing bonus point in their grasp, but in the last minute conceded another penalty which Bro kicked again from distance to send the visitors home with nothing.
