Britain braced for winter's icy grip.

BRITAIN was bracing itself for more cold weather last night with temperatures expected to fall below zero, creating possible ice hazards on the roads in today's rush hour.

Experts warned of widespread frost across the country and the chance of snow showers in many areas tomorrow, including London.

After Sunday night's snowfalls in Derbyshire, there were snow showers throughout yesterday in northern Scotland, and rain and sleet in many areas extending as far as southern England.

MeteoGroup UK forecaster Michael Dukes said: "For the next two or three days it will be cold, with rain, sleet and snow showers around, then the cold will lose its grip on Friday and Saturday, with temperatures returning to normal for this time in January."
