Bring Mum back to us.

Byline: THE TOP TV TOPICS with paddy shennan, the man with the remote

THERE must be a second series now, mustn't there? (Mum, BBC2, last night).

The tender and touching "Will they won't they ever be more than just good friends?" Cathy and Michael storyline has been central to this charming and likeable sitcom.

Throughout the series, Michael, who was the best man to, and best friend of, Cathy's late husband, provided looks of love and longing which, it seemed, only the viewer, and certainly not the subject of his affections, could see.

It was all unspoken, and so it continued right to the end of a series which proved that comedies don't need to be breathless, gag-a-second affairs.

Cathy (Lesley Manville) did grab Michael's hand on New Year's Eve (nothing was said), but did they kiss at midnight? Roll on series two.
