Brighouse greenbelt works plan.

BUSINESS demand has led to a developer seeking to build on Brighouse greenbelt.

ADW Developments Ltd have applied for planning permission for the construction of five industrial units on land at Ashday Works Business Park, Elland Road, Brighouse.

Historically, the site was operated as a fireclay works during the mid-20th Century and is on the route to an existing industrial estate.

In a planning statement the agent, Roger Lee, says: "Melosa Medical, who will occupy the whole of the existing building, will expand to occupy two or three of the new units proposed as part of this application.

"It is crucial to note that due to expansion requirements Melosa Medical - whose main business base is in China - will have no option other than to move out of the borough if they cannot expand within the site."

The report says the remaining units on site wish to expand, plus there is interest from local firms to move into the units.

The application is open to public comment via Calderdale Council.
