Briefs: The Second Coming Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff ????? ..... REVIEW.

Byline: Mike Smith

I DIDN'T know quite what to expect from this highlight of the now well-established Blysh Festival at Cardiff's Wales Millennium Centre.

Within moments of the all-male burlesque show starting inside the glorious Spiegeltent - the new festival venue outside the WMC - all inhibitions were swept aside and the zany, racy, fun-packed show swept the audience away.

Some more enthusiastic ladies whooped their enthusiasm as male flesh was exposed. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a smutty, Chippendales-style show. This is a group of five extremely skilled and talented performers who balance the visual outrageousness you may most likely associate with Priscilla Queen of the Desert with highly toned acrobatic skills from a leading alternative circus troupe - and all done with splendid banter from the mistress of ceremonies, Dallas Dellaforce, who holds the show together.

I adored her just-onthe-right-side-of-shocking banter although it is definitely not a show for the kids as the language can be a bit colourful.

The performance features cheeky camp raciness but it's also inventive. There were also some magic acts thrown in, lots of drag queen banter and mimed songs, including one that was so crazy it defies all description.

In its simplicity, the boys from Brisbane infuse magic, burlesque and vaudeville with rock solid skills.

The finale was a mind-blowing act from a highly skilled feather strewn trapeze artist, all largely played out above the audience in what our compere described as "a giant birdbath".

There was lots of splashing that brought even more squeals of delight from the wildly enthusiastic audience! by Mike Smith
