Track work to shuffle

Coast Starlight runs

Amtrak's Coast Starlight train operation between Eugene and Seattle will see significant changes today, Tuesday and from June 16-25 due to scheduled track improvements.

On those dates, the train will be represented by substitute trains with no sleeping, parlor or dining car service.

A substitute motor coach service will also replace the Coast Starlight between Eugene and Klamath Falls.

Checked baggage will continue to be provided at stations that normally provide the service. For more information, call (800) USA-RAIL.

Comedian's assistant gets speeding warning

REEDSPORT - It was no laughing matter Sunday when Reedsport police stopped a speeding car in which actor-comedian Drew Carey was riding.

An officer pulled over the 2001 BMW, clocked at 44 miles per an hour in a posted 30 miles per hour zone on Highway 101 near 10th Street, at about 7:25 p.m., police said.

Officer Tom Beck gave a verbal warning to the driver, Danielle Riepole, 23, of McMurray, Pa. Beck also asked for the passenger's identification and learned it was Carey.

Riepole, Carey's personal assistant, was lucky she wasn't going one mile an hour faster, Reedsport police dispatcher Sean Grubb said. "At 15 miles per hour over the speed limit, we write them up," he said.
