A pair of courses for brewers and maltsters will be offered in August at the University of California-Davis. The course "Intensive brewing Science for Practical Brewing," will be offered Sunday-Friday, August 19-24.

The program covers the technological and biochemical aspects of the brewing process, including raw materials, malting, brewing, fermentation and finishing.

The course fee is $700, noncredit only. The price includes course materials and two dinners, but not full room and board.

A second course at UC-Davis is titled "Sanitation and Microbiology for the Practical Brewer" and will be offered August 27-31. It is a laboratory course in which participants learn microbiological principles and basic brewing microbiology through hands-on experience.

The course is designed for people who require an introduction to brewing sanitation and microbiology. Course fee is $750, including a dinner, a lunch and course materials. A $200 deposit holds a place in the class until August 4th, when full payment is due.
