Breckenridge Pharmaceutical Inc.

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Breckenridge Pharmaceutical Inc. is a privately held pharmaceutical marketing, research and development company that was founded in 1983 and has its headquarters here.

Breckenridge markets a broad range of branded and generic prescription products in many therapeutic categories, including the Somnote brand of chloral hydrate capsules and the Folbic brand of folic acid with vitamins [B.sub.6] and [Bsub.12].

The company has introduced several abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs), including Ascomp with codeine, a generic version of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp.'s pain reliever Fiorinal with codeine; methylprednisolone, a generic equivalent to Pharmacia's antiinflammatory drug Medrol; prochlorperazine, the generic version of GlaxoSmithKline PLC's Compazine; butalbital, acetaminophen, caffeine and codeine phosphate, the generic version of Novartis' Fioricet with codeine; and folic acid, 1 mg.

"Breckridge Pharmaceutical has an aggressive product development program and is currently developing over a dozen ANDAs," vice president of business development Larry Lapila says. "By focusing our efforts on product development, we offer our customers a steady stream of new items."

Breckenridge markets more than 100 products and more than 150 SKUs in a variety of dosage forms, including tablets, capsules, soft gel capsules, liquids, suspensions, suppositories, topical ointments, creams, gels and lotions.

"We bring approximately 50 new products to market annually," Lapila says, noting that the company's line includes products in such therapeutic categories as antihistamines, analgesics, prescription-strength vitamin and mineral supplements, dermatologics, urinary antiseptics, anticholinergics/ antispasmodics, digestive enzymes and cough/cold products.

Lapila and other Breckenridge executives stress that the company is constantly updating its product line to meet changing market conditions. "We are currently detailing physicians about our ValuBrand products," Lapila says.

The ValuBrand products, he notes, are specialty items that carry trade names and establish product recognition.

According to Lapila, ValuBrand includes Duotan PD suspension, Ferrex 150/Ferrex 150 Forte, Folbee, Folbee Plus, Folbic, Histade, Syntest H.S. and Syntest D.S., Vinate GT, Vinate II and the Crantex family of products.

"Breckenridge customers have come to expect, and continue to receive, consistently high service levels and customer service response time," vice president of sales Marty Schatz says. "We are able to give our customers the personal attention they expect. We're easy to do business with."
