Bravery award for wife shot in hostage kidnap.

The husband of one of the British hostages killed in Yemen last year is to receive a bravery award on her behalf.

Mr Laurence Whitehouse, aged 54, from Hook, Hampshire, will accept the award bestowed by the Association of Retired and Persons over 50 on his late wife Margaret, who died last December while trying to help a fellow hostage during a shoot-out between Yemeni forces and armed tribesmen.

He has also been nominated for a British Gold Hero award from the Association of Retired and Persons over 50 along with fellow hostages Mr Eric Firkins, aged 55, and 52-year-old Mrs Margaret Thompson.

A spokesman for the Association said: "They were just a group of very interested tourists seeing the archaeological sites of Yemen and this was suddenly thrust upon them. They showed extraordinary bravery."
