Brau und Brunnen: Germany's largest beer and beverage group

The name Brau and Brunnen-Brewing and Natural Springs represents a thriving beverage group with annual beer sales of 6.3 million hectoliters and 5.3 million hectoliters in non-alcoholic beverages. The group achieved a 24.3-percent sales increase in 1990 compared to the previous year.

Brau und Brunnen owns 17 breweries, four mineral water companies and several Coca-Cola franchises in Germany. Brau und Brunnen is headquartered in the city of Dortmund, the "brewing capital of the world."

The company's leading breweries are: Dortmunder Ritter, in Dortmund; Heidelberger Schlossguell Brauerei, Heidelberg; Schultheiss Brauerei, the largest brewery in Berlin; and Einbecker Brau Haus, in Einbecker. Brau und Brunnen's top water company is Apollinaris, located in the Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler valley.

For more than 100 years, the Dortmunder Union Bauerei has been an institution in the city of Dortmund with a long tradition of quality and taste.

Dirk Hecht, marketing manager under the direction of Dr. Michael Brenscheidt, Brau und Brunnen International's president, has conducted a two-year market research program in the U.S., Italy, France, and England. Based on his findings, a new uniform, high-class image has been developed. Dortmunder Union original and dark are now available in a new gold label, new bottle, and new open six-pack carrier. The package radiates "success in gold and clearly reflects the premium quality of the product," Hecht noted. The new packaging is supported by attractive point-of-sale material and promotional programs.

Gunter Graefenhain, Brau und Brunnen's representative for the United States, reported he is excited about the growth potential of Brau und Brunnen's products in America. The company has well-established distributors in the United States, who have been waiting patiently for the new package. Dortmunder Original is ready for shipment to the U.S.
