Branson is up and at stem.

Byline: Elaine C. Smith

IADMIRE Richard Branson, his ideas and his ability to take a risk.

His project of opening a bank to store babies' stem cells is a great one.

The future of medicine is in the research into stem cells. My sister has just had life-saving stem cell therapy and we thank our lucky stars for the chance it has given her.

What parent would say no to storing cells from their baby's umbilical cord?

But in a week when we are told of a huge shortage of midwives in maternity units, we have to ask how this will be done?

I also worry that this is a service only available to those who can afford it.

The stem cell bank should be publicly owned and funded so that ALL citizens can have access to it.
