Bragging right are now Sunderland's after soccer win! AROUND THE NORTH.

Byline: John Forbes

SUNDERLAND were cock-a-hoop after their inter-track soccer battle with sister-track and neighbours Newcastle last month. The match, organised by Newcastle security man Steve Wilby and played at Hebburn Town's ground, saw a 5-1 victory for Sunderland.

Some gave more in the cause than others, Newcastle paddock steward Norman Grant ending up in a hospital bed with broken ribs, but the cause was the big winner, raising pounds 400 for ex-racers.

I understand that a return match has been suggested - on the golf course this time. No doubt, the 'Byker Bandit' Terry Meynell, has something to do with that.
