Byline: DAVIS SMITH

A BOY aged five was killed and eight British tourists hurt when their sight-seeing plane crashed in Venezuela.

The Cessna suffered a engine failure shortly after take-off from an airport in the Canaima National Park and crashed into trees.

Little Thomas Horne died from head injuries as rescue workers attempted to fly him to hospital.

The hurt Brits included his dad David, and mum Jane, both 43.

The group had been visiting the spectacular national park - which includes the Angel Falls, the world's largest waterfall Makeli Freire, a tour guide in the park, said: "The plane started to take off and we sensed it was losing power.

"Then it seemed to get it back and took off 200 metres before the end of the runway.

"Then it began to fall into some palm trees, and we went down to rescue them.

"Everyone who was in the airport helped, and the only doctor in the park was in the area by chance, thank God.

"He came out to help when he saw the plane go down."

Thomas's aunt June Holman said: "The thoughts of us are all with his parents, Jane and David . They were with him on the flight.

"There is nothing worse than losing a child."
