Boxing mourns Cummins.

SAD news this week to hear of the passing of the former WBA light-middleweight champion Shaun Cummins.

Cummins possessed all the skills needed to become a world champion. He was very tall for his weight division and looked like a light heavyweight rather than a light-middleweight and later a middleweight. 'The Guvnor', as he was known, had devastating power in either hand and he took a great shot and had a huge heart that made many a boxer avoid him.

I remember a show Dai Gardiner and myself staged in Merthyr when he fought Wally Swift Jr in a British title eliminator, the fight was a classic but Cummins lost a very close points decision. He also had a mad temper and I recall one sparring session when I caught him with a body shot which resulted in him running around screaming!
