Boxing News 2014: Mayweather Will Cancel Fight With Maidana If Demands Not Accepted; Money Could Lose WBC Welterweight, Light Middleweight Titles.

The fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana is in jeopardy of not taking place on Saturday, as controversy surrounding the boxing gloves to be used by the Argentine slugger at fight night created tension between both camps.

Leonard Ellerbe, the chief operation officer of Floyd Mayweather Promotions, voiced out his frustrations about the decision by Maidana's camp to use custom-made powder blue boxing gloves manufactured by Everlast.

Mayweather and his camp claimed that the padding in the glove is not proportionately distributed. Nevada Athletic Commission chairman Francisco Aguilar made an examination of the gloves and agreed it was unfit for use. However, Aguilar approved a stock red pair of Everlast MX gloves, but Mayweather and Ellerbe still protested the use of such specification of glove.

"We're not fighting anybody in some gloves that don't have no damn padding...there won't be a fighter's health and safety is more important than putting on a show...he's not getting in the ring fighting anybody with gloves that don't have no was embarrassing to bring those kind of gloves...we're not fighting tomorrow...we're not approving fighting in those gloves," Ellerbe stated in an interview on Fight Hype.

Mayweather, who will earn $32 million in his third bout on Showtime Boxing, will have to decide if he's going to fight Maidana wearing the approved red Everlast MX gloves. If eventually withdraws from the fight, the WBC welterweight champ could leave guaranteed money along with $20 million more from his share of pay-per-view revenue.

Still, Golden Boy Promotion CEO Richard Schaefer is optimistic both camp will settle their issues, paving the way for one of the biggest bouts of the year to happen.

"The camps are discussing the gloves," Schaefer said in his statement via Yahoo Sports. "It is not a commission issue. The camps are still talking about it now, but everything will be worked out. Both guys want to fight. I'm not concerned about this issue."

The 37-year old Mayweather is not only staking his WBC welterweight title, but he could only los the WBC light middleweight championship if he gets upset by Maidana.

According to the rules, Mayweather has to win the bout for him to retain the WBC welterweight and light middleweight championship belts.

"Aany champion losing a fight in a lower division will lose his championship in the higher division, as well," according to East Side Boxing.
