Boxing: Troy gets nod from McGuigan.

Byline: By Matt Bozeat

RING legend Barry McGuigan says Troy James has to add more polish to his power after the all-action Coventry scrapper came through a cracking battle in Widnes.

James made it two wins out of two with a four-round points win over Ibrar Riyaz at Kingsway Leisure Centre in front of the Sky Sports cameras - and the super featherweight expects to be back in the ring next month.

McGuigan is advising James and the former WBA world featherweight champion says there's some work to be done before his next fight.

"It's early days yet and I'm convinced Troy has got a bright future," he said, "but he got caught a few times by silly punches and still has plenty to learn. He has lots of power, but needs to polish his boxing skills."

James admits he was taken by surprise by Riyaz's two-fisted attacks at the opening bell but he then took over with his thumping body punches and combinations and Riyaz was relieved to hear the final bell "It was a bit tougher than I expected," said James. "I should have boxed more instead of loading up looking for the knock-out all the time. I was swinging too much and got caught by some silly punches, but it was only my second professional fight."
