Boxing: Joppy may not arrive.

WILLIAM Joppy, pencilled in as Joe Calzaghe's next opponent at Newcastle's Telewest Arena on May 24, is unlikely to be coming to Britain, writes Gareth Jones. The man Calzaghe really wants, Bernard Hopkins, has been told by the World Boxing Association that he must meet Joppy if he is to retain their recognition. ``No-one but Hopkins could motivate me now,'' said 32-year-old Joppy, who is the WBA's actual middleweight titleholder - confusingly, they regard Hopkins as a ``super-champion'' because he also wears the WBC and IBF belts. ``I could fight Bernard without having to go and meet Calzaghe in his own country at a weight I've never fought at before.''
