Boxer Glenn gets The Birds.
A FORMER boxing world champion is preparing for his first acting work in more than 20 years.
Glenn McCrory, from County Durham, is preparing to swap the Sky Sports studio for the West End stage starring as Nat in the Daphne du Maurier classic The Birds, but has previously starred in TV series including Quayside, Our Friends in the North and Casualty.
But one year ago, Glenn could barely see as he was waiting for vital eye surgery.
He said: "I would have never attempted anything like this in the past; for a start, I wouldn't have been able to read the lines.
"Lens surgery has been life-changing.
"My job as a commentator was getting harder and harder because my view of the fight would be affected by where I was sitting.
"When I went for an eye test, I was shocked to discover that my sight was so poor, it was illegal for me to drive.
"Now I can read, I can drive and do lots of things that I wouldn't even have attempted to do before.
Glenn McCrory will appear in The Birds, at Leicester Square Theatre, from September 24 to October 17.
