Bowel management work praised.

I am writing to say how much I enjoyed reading the article "Supporting children to be boss of their bowels" published in the March issue of Kai Tiaki Nursing New Zealand (p19).

Paediatric nurse Lisa Smith is doing a wonderful job and Hawke's Bay District Health Board is to be congratulated on its proactive move in employing Lisa in the role.

I'm a public health nurse and most of my client referrals are for children with eneuresis and/or encopresis concerns. It is only in the past two years that I have begun working with children who suffer encopresis. Reading about Lisa's bowel management clinic, and subsequently contacting her, has provided me with more information, resources and ability to assist these children and their families.

Obviously the sooner there is intervention for these children, and consistent advice and treatment from all health professionals involved in their care, the sooner the child and family can get back to some normality.

Thanks very much Lisa, and keep up the good work.
