Bouncer allegedly stabbed man at club.
WORCESTER - A doorman at the La Raza nightclub on Cambridge Street has been charged with stabbing a man in the men's bathroom of the establishment early yesterday morning.
Alberto Verde, 53, of 26 Mott St., Apt. 1, is to be arraigned today in Central District Court on charges of armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, police said.
Mr. Verde was arrested just before 8 a.m. yesterday at Laurel and Summer streets, where his car was stopped at a stop sign. Detectives surrounded the car while it was stopped at the intersection, police said in a press release.
The 32-year-old man who suffered several stab wounds was in stable condition at a local hospital, police said. They did not give his name.
Police went to the nightclub at 387 Cambridge St. just after midnight after getting a call to assist an off-duty police officer working a bar detail. The off-duty officer told police about a fight in the men's bathroom. An officer went into the bathroom, where he met the man who had been stabbed, police said.
After determining Mr. Verde was a person of interest in the stabbing, police continued an investigation that led to his arrest.
