Bouncer's book is to be a movie; FILM: Geoff's memories of city club scene head to big screen as new book published.

Byline: By Kerry Beadling

A FORMER Coventry bouncer is having a pounds 2.5 million film made based on his written memoirs.

Geoff Thompson, aged 47, of Binley, first wrote about his life as a doorman for Coventry pubs including the Pink Parrot and Red Lion in the book Watch Your Back 15 years ago.

Now he has turned it into a film called Clubbed which will star Shameless actress Maxine Peake, Kate Ashfield from Shaun of the Dead and newcomer Mel Raido as main character Danny.

The idea for the movie was first talked about 11 years ago, and although it has taken a long time Mr Thompson, who was born in Tile Hill, is thrilled filming will begin on Monday, March 12.

Inside shots will be filmed on sets in London with outside scenes filmed across the West Midlands including Coventry and Birmingham.

It is thought it will take five weeks to get everything on film, with some clips of the finished movie being taken over to Cannes in May.

The whole film is then expected to be finished and in cinemas later this year or early in 2008.

Geoff has since written 30 books, seven screenplays and staged plays. His new book, Elephant and The Twig, focuses on achieving goals - and one of his was to write a film.

The former Cardinal Wiseman pupil said: "It's taken 11 years but money for it was raised through a scheme called EIS where you can get private finance from investors.

"Watch Your Back and the film were inspired by my life story - I was a doorman for about 10 years during the 1980s for pubs across Coventry.

"For the last 15 years I've been a professional writer and everything's going great.

"I've worked very hard but things are finally coming together. My book Elephant and The Twig is about positive thinking and I wanted to tell people they can do anything - I wanted to write a film and now it's happening."
