Boulevard joins Pretty Things to make a Stingo.

Boulevard Brewing Co. of Kansas City, MO, has partnered with the Pretty Things Beer and Ale Project to resurrect the obscure 17th century English style known as "Stingo."

The collaboration developed as Boulevard employees got to know Pretty Things founders Dann and Martha Paquette at East Coast beer festivals. Dann came up with the idea for a Stingo-style ale, and Boulevard brewmaster Steven Pauwels signed on for the project. Pretty Things traveled to Boulevard in April to brew the beer.

"The Pretty Things crew brought a level of creativity and energy to this project that was infectious," said Mr. Pauwels. "We had a great time reinventing this deserving but nearly forgotten style, and I believe craft beer enthusiasts will enjoy the results."

Mr. Pauwels describes the Stingo as "bold and full-bodied, with a big malty nose, hints of dark malt, chocolate, licorice, and black fruits, and just the right amount of tartness in the finish."

The beer will be available in 1/6 barrel kegs and 750ml cork-and-cage bottles throughout Boulevard's territory in August.
