Bosses see the light on energy savings.

A POWER firm is aiming to help businesses in the West Midlands keep their energy bills down this summer.

With energy inefficient buildings costing British businesses pounds 1.1billion a year, npower business is keen to pass on money-saving tips to bosses throughout the region.

Its simple energy-saving tips include buying compact fluorescent light bulbs as they are 80percent more energy efficient than filament lamps, checking that air conditioning temperatures match recommended standards and carrying out regular maintenance checks.

Other tips include ensuring everyone switches off lights when not needed and computers at nights and weekends.

By doing this, a company can reduce energy consumption in offices by up to 75percent.

Joan Coe, spokeswoman for npower business, said: "The first step any business should take is to involve all staff from the outset to ensure everyone is aware of the importance of energy efficiency."
