Boro battlers in semis.

CALL them what you want - the Boys' Clubs, CYPs or the rebranded National Ambition Boxing Championships.

Whatever you prefer, Middlesbrough has three boxers battling it out in this Sunday's semi-finals at the Nissan Sports and Social Club in Sunderland.

Wellington have two in action: Flyweight Kane Auer takes on Aston's Mason Lynn in Class B and James Thompson squares off with Dylan Duffy (Pegasus) in Class A. Pallister Park ABC lightheavyweight Jahmal Weaver is up against Ryman Hatton in Class A. PERSISTENCE paid off for Jordan Rookes as he stopped a run of defeats on the Hartlepool Catholic show.

The southpaw lightwelterweight landed long, straight punches to edge Joe Winspear on majority points. s

Rookes, 16, will try to build on his victory in Dewsbury on December 1 as one of four Middlesbrough ABC boxers in action.

Former national cadets novice champion Affy Khan returns after six years out, alongside Rookes and Guisborough brothers Jamesie and Martin McDonagh. PALLISTER Park ABC's Marley Devitt and Aaron Howdon had to make do with runner-up trophies on Toothill ABC's show at Wingate.

Devitt never seemed to get going as he lost on unanimous points to James Cowie while Howdon was stopped by Toothill's Tom Summerbell, only his second defeat in six bouts.
