Borland Announces Delphi/400 Client/Server Suite for the IBM AS/400; Company's Golden Gate Strategy Brings Rapid Application Development to New Market; Borland Joins IBM's "Partners in Development" Business Program.

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 6, 1997--Borland International Inc. today announced a new client/server development tool for the IBM AS/400 hardware platform -- Delphi/400 Client/Server Suite. Based on the company's award-winning rapid application development (RAD) tool for Windows, this new version of Delphi brings visual component-based development to AS/400 programmers and sophisticated, high-performance GUI applications to their users.

"This is a significant delivery in Borland's Golden Gate strategy, one that will greatly benefit the IBM AS/400 user community," said Del Yocam, Borland's chairman and CEO. "Delphi/400 Client/Server Suite brings the industry's most-advanced RAD technology to the installed base of over 400,000 IBM AS/400 systems worldwide."

IBM Partners in Development Program

In addition to today's product launch, Borland also announced it has joined IBM's AS/400 "Partners in Development" business program. Through this program, the two companies will work together to provide Delphi-based software solutions to the AS/400 community. Borland will also take part in demonstrating Delphi/400 Client/Server Suite at three special IBM tradeshows this year: -0-

Delphi/400 Client/Server Suite

The Delphi/400 Client/Server Suite is based upon Borland's Delphi Client/Server Suite 2.0 for Windows 95 and Windows NT, and AS/400-compatible connectivity and development technology recently licensed by Borland from TCIS of Paris, France. It represents the only high-performance RAD tool that combines the ease and productivity of visual component-based design, the power of the world's fastest optimizing 32-bit native-code compiler, and the flexibility of an open, scalable database architecture in a robust object-oriented environment. With the addition of the ScreenDesigner/400 specialized object classes and ClientObject/400's APPC AS/400 connectivity, Delphi/400 Client/Server Suite delivers an easy-to-use Windows interface for the AS/400 that is secure, fast, and capable of meeting the ever-increasing demands of rapid client/server development.

"Delphi/400 Client/Server Suite is a great addition to the AS/400 development tool chest," said Mark R. Buckner, president of Astech Solutions, Inc., a leading AS/400 consulting and development firm based in Aurora, Ontario. "AS/400 developers can now realize major productivity improvements with Delphi's easy-to-use visual design tools, high-performance database connections, and open component model. This is definitely a product to watch."
