Border Service of Kyrgyzstan not to merge with Defense Ministry.

The Border Service will not merge with the Defense Ministry and will remain a separate agency, said press service of the Kyrgyz Border Service commenting on media reports citing Border Service Chair Zamir Moldoshev who said during session of the parliamentary faction of the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan on January 21 that merger of the Border Service with the Defense Ministry is an open question. There were discussions about transfer of functions to the Defense Ministry to guard the state border and border guarding at border cross points to the National Security State Committee in August-September 2008. "I reported to the President that it is not appropriate to merge the Border Service with other agencies. Then the decision was made that the Border Service will remain a separate agency. This is the closed question," Border Service Chair Zamir Moldoshev said.
