Borage seed oil may help reduce dry skin and itching associated with aging.

* Borage seed oil may help reduce dry skin and itching associated with aging. In a preliminary German study, 29 healthy older adults took a daily dose of 1.5 or three grams of borage seed oil, a rich source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). After two months of either treatment, the researchers found a significant reduction in water loss from the skin. In addition, reports of itching dropped from one-third of the participants to none. Reports of dry skin fell from 42% to 14%. Borage oil may compensate for the relative lack of essential fatty acids in aging skin.
