Boozers sup pounds 83k in one bar.

RUGBY fans drank themselves into the record books by spending pounds 83,000 on beer in just ONE PUB.

Bar staff were rushed off their feet as they served up more than 40,000 drinks in 14 hours.

The massive booze-up happened at Walkabout in Cardiff at last weekend's Wales-England rugby international.

Tills were ringing at a rate of pounds 120 a MINUTE as England fans celebrated victory and Welsh fans drowned sorrows.

And some drinkers queued up for five hours just to join the huge party in the Australian theme bar.

Stephen Haupt, managing director of the Walkabout chain of pubs, said: "It was a phenomenal day. It broke all company records with a single take in a day of pounds 83,000.

"That is the equivalent of pounds 2 going into the till every second we were open."

Fan Rob Kennedy, 38, said: "I've never see so much beer drunk in all my life." Pubs across the city enjoyed bumper takings.
