Booze laws shock.

PLANS to allow off-licences and supermarkets to sell booze for longer were scuppered by MSPs yesterday.

The Executive wanted to extend the hours in which carry-outs can be sold.

But backbenchers defied ministers and CUT off-licence hours instead.

Shops will only be able to sell alcohol from 10am to 10pm.The existing law allows off-sales from 8am to 10pm.

After chaotic scenes at Holyrood the Licensing Bill was passed by 71 votes to 42
