Booze U-turn is madness; VIEWPOINTS.

HAVE Cardiff magistrates gone mad overturning the council's decision and permitting Tesco a licence to sell alcohol on St Mary Street? Cardiff has already been highlighted on several television programmes showing the impact that alcohol has on the streets of the capital. Now Tesco will add fuel to the fire and sell alcohol. There is already street drinking and growing alcohol-fuelled crime in the city.

You only have to look around the rear of the bus station, and other close streets.

SouthWales Police will now have no doubt more trouble on their hands and there will be more going through the courts. Or is that the tactic to get more revenue through the courts and fines system? No doubt time will tell. Isn't it time Tesco listened to the others, the likes of the traders and councillors who originally opposed the licence? Gary Evans Clos Penyclawdd, St Mellons, Cardiff
