Boos as Clapton storms off stage.

Eric Clapton left fans booing when he walked off stage just threequarters of the way into his set at Glasgow's SSE Hydro last night.

The guitar legend only managed a handful of classics before appearing to have a sound problem just an hour into the set.

A few minutes later he came back on and started another song.

But after looking angrily around, he muttered into the microphone and then stomped oY=. Diehard fan Stephen Houston, 47, from Troon, said: "He didn't apologise, he just walked oY=. "At first the stunned audience thought he might be going oY= but coming back for an encore. But the stage crew ran on and started dismantling the set.

"People were booing and jeering, the place was in an absolute uproar as almost 12,000 people realisedClapton wasn't coming back.

"The lights went up and that was it. ere wasn't even an apologetic announcement from the Hydro staY=. "People were raging after spending PS67 each on tickets , lots had come from afar and booked hotels too. I know he's a perfectionist but that was just bloody rude."

Clapton managed hits like Layla, Hoochie Coochie Man and Tears in Heaven.

But with at least 30minutes still to play, fans were fumin g that the star did not even appear to apologise.

Car dealer GeoY= Rider, 49, from Glasgow said: "I've never heard an angrier audience. ey were booing and jeering and couldn't believe they'd been treated like that."

Clapton is due to play in Leeds tonight.
