Boom in medical supplies.

BOOM IN MEDICAL SUPPLIES. There are 46 companies in Costa Rica in the medical industry whose exports in the first 10 months of 2012 totaled $1.24 billion, reports Elfinancierocr.com (Nov. 22, 2012). The entry into Costa Rica of several companies in the medical industry in the last three years is reflected in the growth of the sector's exports. Between January and October this year 20.4% more currency was generated than in 2011, making it one of the fastest growing sectors. Products that contributed to growth were medical devices (52.7% increase) and needles and catheters," which doubled its exports, according to data from the Foreign Trade Promotion Office (Procomer). Also dental appliances gained momentum this year and have generated 18 times what they did in 2011 reaching $5.5 million.
