Boole & Babbage Announces Multiplatform Solution for Managing IBM MQSeries Network; MainView for MQSeries Broadens Company's Enterprise Automation Offerings.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 26, 1996--Boole & Babbage, Inc. (NASDAQ: BOOL), the leader in Enterprise Automation solutions for managing distributed systems, today announced MainView for MQSeries, an integrated family of systems management products to support IBM MQSeries networks across multiple platforms.

As an extension to the existing MainView line for IBM S/390 servers, the new MainView for MQSeries family will provide proactive performance and automation capabilities to help companies increase availability and operation of the IBM MQ message-oriented middleware (MOM) in heterogenous environments.

"We have seen explosive growth in the demand for MQSeries, and our customers are enthusiastic about systems management products," said Steve Craggs, manager of IBM's MQSeries business, Hursley Park, England. "Products like MainView for MQSeries give customers the ability to manage MQSeries networks."

"Our customers are now asking for an MQSeries management solution that is integrated with their other MainView products to give them an automated, mainframe-based point-of-control for availability and operation of distributed MQSeries networks," said Mike Bunyard, senior marketing director of large systems at Boole & Babbage.

"Other recently announced offerings are limiting customers to non-integrated point solutions which may require additional hardware investments."

MainView for MQSeries, like all MainView products, will be based on the BBI architecture, ensuring low overhead and seamless integration. MainView for MQSeries will utilize MQ/ESA running MVS and standard IBM-based APIs. It will employ MQ agents to reach, monitor and automate distributed MQ Managers. Customers will have the flexibility of using MainView for MQSeries on either a 3270 ISPF/TSO, VTAM display, or a GUI workstation.

Using advanced Single System Image (SSI) technology, MainView users will be able to monitor the entire MQ enterprisewide network from a single screen. This will help them prevent message bottlenecks that could easily disrupt the flow of messages between sender and receiver. MainView for MQSeries will give users the tools to monitor MQSeries statistics related to OS/2, AIX and other platforms. In particular, users will be able to display performance statistics on MQ/ESA objects, analyze message routing and verify definitions. They will also be able to diagnose dead letter queues, which is a key process in managing message delivery.

MainView for MQSeries will include exception notification capabilities to dynamically alert users on predefined thresholds, thereby expediting proactive management. Topology maps will be available to represent relationships between MQ objects, and the probe facility will allow users to determine correct routing definitions. In addition, a command interface will empower users to manipulate MQ messages, queues and channels.

Customers requiring tight security, such as banking, insurance and travel industry users, can confidently secure all information views and actions. An audit trail will identify all actions that have been invoked and ensure that security infrastructures have not been violated. Boole & Babbage also intends to conform to industry MOM standards as proposed by the Message Oriented Middleware Association (MOMA).

Availability and Pricing

MainView for MQSeries will enter beta testing in June 1996, and will be available in the later part of 1996. Pricing is being determined. For further information, call 800/544-2152.
