Books; Staying in.
The Thunder Girls Melanie Blake Pan Macmillan. Out July 11
This perfect storm of a debut novel follows four women who were in the world's biggest girl group - before jealousy, betrayal and revenge tore them apart. They split in 1989 vowing never speak to each other again, and the tale zips back and forth between past and present. Decades on, their record label wants to reunite them for a money-making anniversary gig. In their years apart, breakdowns, bankruptcy, addiction and divorce have all taken their toll. And behind the scenes someone is plotting to stop them succeeding in the deadliest possible way.
Those People Louise Candlish Simon & Schuster. Out now Welcome to Lowland Way, a middle-class paradise where the residents live in rather smug contentment. But their idyll is shattered by the arrival of new neighbour Darren, whose loud music, crude behaviour and wild parties begin a toxic turn of events. Smart, twisty and very entertaining.
Supper Club Lara Williams Hamish Hamilton. Out Thursday A group of women, led by awkward heroine Roberta, form a secret underground society - where appetites are indulged and doctrines busted. A celebration of female power and friendship, with some wonderful food writing, this is darkly delicious.
