Bont in top-tier survival clash; Welsh Club Conference.

PONTNEWYNYDD gave themselves a massive boost in their quest to avoid relegation from Division One of the Thomas, Carroll Welsh Club Cricket Conference when they beat doomed Cefn Forest by 141 runs at Pentrepiod Road.

Bont, who visit Pencoed next week in a crucial battle for survival, posted an impressive 235-8. Owen Price led the run charge with 74 and there were other significant contributions from Rhodri Jones (36), Alex Barry (24), Richard Williams (19). Ceri Thomas took 2-32 and Dean Butler 2-35 for Forest.

Tony Burt and Butler batted bravely for the hosts with 25 and 23 but they were bowled out for 94 with Joe Matthews taking 4-17, Williams 3-18 and Barry 2-32.

All the other four top-tier matches at Abercynon, Cardiff, Hopkinstown and Pentwyn were called off due to saturated pitches.

Dinas Powys are promoted from Division Two after they easily overcame close rivals Barry Wanderers by six wickets. Wanderers made a good start reaching 90-1, thanks to 42 from Aled Hughes and 34 from Gareth Lanagan.

But they collapsed alarmingly to 108-8 then 141 all out as Dinesh Duddla took 5-29 and Stuart Jones 2-22. Jones then plundered a superb unbeaten 69 to send the champagne corks popping at Parc Bryn-y-Don.

In a mid table encounter at Tredegar the hosts gained a comfortable 106 run victory over Llanarth. Lewis Parfitt and Stuart Lee stroked 64 not out and 63 and Andrew Evans added 55 as Tredegar posted 248-6. Llanarth could only gather 142-8 with Scott Quirke the main destroyer with 4-14.

Penarth III's, chasing promotion to Division Two, gained an important 2 run victory over Radyr III's with Conrad Adams (84) and Steve Newman (6-38) their star performers.

. ? Aberaeron recorded their sixth victory of the West Wales conference campaign, overwhelming hapless Tregaron.
