Bombs saved lives; You Say Email:letters@liverpoolecho.co.uk.

WHILE I was looking at the photograph of the memorial to the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (ECHO, August 7) I was made fully aware of the freedom we have in this country to express our feelings in many ways.

However, I hope we will remember this bombing saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of our armed forces, British and American, who would have been casualties if they had to invade more Japanese islands, and eventually Japan itself. Countries even now are planning new missiles in case of war - yet we know war is cruel.

In 1917 the Germans used poison gas; in 1944-1945 the Germans used V1 and V2 missiles.

What will be next as we plan to kill more people? G.D.Pringle, Bootle
