Bombing dad: My nightmare; 'We'll never go abroad again'.

Byline: By Jane Tyler

A BIRMINGHAM dad whose family were seriously injured in the Turkish bomb terror today spoke of the moment his "worst nightmare" came true.

Distraught Alex Beckford, from Quinton, said his family had been going to the resort of Marmaris for the last six years, but would never holiday outside the UK ever again.

Alex, his wife Jenny, and their nine-year-old son Louis, his mum Susanna Beckford and Jenny's mom Dorothy Hughes all suffered serious injuries when a bomb exploded on Bank Holiday weekend.

They were flown back to Birmingham last night and are in Selly Oak Hospital.

Speaking from the hospital for the first time about the atrocity, Alex said they were on a minibus heading back to the hotel after a day's shopping and dining.

"I was at the front of the bus and everyone else was in the back seats and I remember saying to Jenny 'how far?'," he said.

"And then there was the explosion. It was something I cannot put into words. It was my worst nightmare."

Alex, choking back tears and at times struggling to speak, relived the horror which almost killed five members of his family.

"There was a horrific bang and I thought the engine had blown up. I didn't think it was an explosion," he said.

"It dawned on me it was because there was big black smoke, sparks and you couldn't see anything in front of you."

He was the only person who was mobile and clambered around helping everyone else, ripping off his T-shirt to stem the flow of blood from his wife's legs.

Alex said he felt nothing but pure hatred for the bombers.

"Why couldn't they blow up their own parents? Why us? We've done nothing to them."

He said the family would never go to Turkey again.

"I would never go back there again, that's done it for me - I won't put myself and my family in that predicament again. In fact I don't think we'll holiday outside the UK ever again.

"We're extremely angry about what happened. Dorothy wants revenge - my wife wants to shoot them in the head.

"My mum has got holes in her legs thanks to them - we don't deserve this because I lost my dad nine months ago."
